How to choose the right brand designer

Ready to invest in branding for your business? Yay! Investing in branding is a big step in your business journey, and one that should be taken with care.

You might be feeling anxious about choosing the right designer for your branding project. You want to feel confident that you will achieve the result you’ve been dreaming about, and that branding your business will be worth the investment.

Let me put your mind at ease as we run through the most important ways you can ensure that you choose the right designer for your brand.

  • Look for a designer whose style matches your vision. Make sure that you like the designer’s style and feel that it would be a match for your target audience. Look at their social media for an indication of their style as well as their portfolio on their website.

  • Ask for recommendations from businesses in your niche. If you have any friends or acquaintances that understand your niche, ask for recommendations.

  • Look for designers who serve your niche. Do a search on google, Pinterest, linked in or instagram for designers with specialist knowledge in your niche

  • Check the quality of the designer’s work and testimonials. Is their work of a standard that you are happy with? Do they have testimonials?

  • Look out for red flags. Look out for a lack of testimonials, no transparency in pricing, or content that they share on their social media that doesn’t reflect your values or niche as a business. Look out for pushy, rude or disrespectful behaviour in the DMS. Do they seem interested and excited to work with you? If you have a free call with them, did they listen to you and demonstrate understanding in your goals? If you are not sure, try reaching out to past clients of theirs to find out more about the experience of working with them.

  • Research your designer’s packages and pricing. Check out their sales pages or price guide PDF for pricing and inclusions.

  • Ask the designer about their process. Ask the designer what the overall process would be like working together and what to expect.

  • Book a fitting call to ask questions. Tell them about your goals and your vision. Make sure that the designer makes you feel seen and heard when you speak with them. Did they seem clear on how they could help you or vague on the details?
