How to make an impression in under 7 seconds

Did you know that as a health and wellness brand, you have less than 7 seconds to make an impression That’s the amount of time it takes for a potential client or customer to decide if they’re interested in what your business has to offer, or not.

Hi I’m Marielle Davis and as a brand and web designer, my templates and services have helped hundreds of entrepreneurs stand out and attract their dream clients.

In today’s video, I’ll be sharing how you can make an impression as a health and wellness brand, in under 7 seconds.

  • The first step is to make sure that your message is clear. Your customers are busier and more distracted than ever, and they don’t want to work hard to understand how it is you can help them. It’s important that you can get your message across in a clear and simple way.

  • How do you do that? Well you tell a simple story. Take some time to actually craft a one sentence statement that you can use everywhere that has the following: Your service or product, who it’s for, specifically, and then describe the result in 2-3 words. This is something you can fall back to when you are creating your promotions, graphics, and offers.

  • The second step is to make sure that you are actually appealing to the right people. The best way to find out if your brand is effective or not, is to actually ask your target audience - who do you think my services or products are for? Does my brand appeal to you? It’s well worth investing the time to make sure that you are appealing to he right people, rather than wasting your precious time creating marketing content that flops.

  • If you don’t know where to start with creating an effective brand identity, take a look at well known brands in your industry that you know are successful. How do they present themselves? What kind of look and feel have they created to attract your dream clients and customers? By no means am I saying copy their exact style obviously, but it’s important to know what kind of brands resonate with your dream clients and customers.

The next thing you need to do is create the look and feel of your brand. Write down 3-5 words that describe how your clients and customers should feel when they interact with your brand.

Why is this important? Well as humans we are wired to seek out pleasure, and avoid pain. Naturally we gravitate towards brands that make us feel the way that we want to feel. Perhaps that feeling is calm, or excited, luxurious, confident even.

You can use these words to start to build out things like your colour palette, website, products.

Make sure that once you know how it is your brand should feel, that you are consistent. Make sure that all of your graphics, website, content deliver that same feeling.

Another way to ensure that your brand makes an impression in under 7 seconds, is scannable content. How easy is it for people to get an understanding of your message? If your promotions are very text heavy for example, your message is just going to get lost.

  • Another thing you can do is look at your own brand and ask yourself, would I buy from me? Does my own brand feel trustworthy enough for me to buy from? Because if the answer is no, your clients and customers are thinking the same thing.

Make sure that you have big bold headings in all of your promos and content, with a few simple dot points or a very short paragraph underneath because chances are your audience are not reading every word, they are scanning. If you’re not sure, scan over your own content.

How easy is it for you to understand what’s being said in under 7 seconds?

  • Finally, this is nothing new, but people really do want to buy from other people. How often do you show your face, or if you are a team, show the faces of your team ? If the answer is not very often, then it’s going to be hard for your buyers to trust your brand. Some easy ways to add a human element to your brand include quick Instagram stories or Tik Toks, a mini brand photoshoot, going live on your favourite platform, or taking people behind the scenes of your day to day business.
